Seema Van der Sande reviews work by Jan-Clemens Lampe

23-10-2014 - Seema Van der Sande reviews work by Jan-Clemens Lampe

Seema Van der Sande kijkt terug op een werk, dat zij met haar man Maarten in 2012 aankocht van Jan-Clemens Lampe.
Zij schrijft:

Dearest Jan Clemens,

Two years ago, in the spring of 2012, we came to your gallery and walked into the living room.  Slowly, after chatting with you and drinking coffee, we dived into the world of your art, photography and of course your passionately painted paintings “The torso series”. We slowly started going through all the paintings and literally felt the movement of your fingers that must have taken place when you where in the creative trance from the very first dapping of all the paint on your own torso and then, with the movement of your torso reflected on paper, you completed the painting which we continue to admire till today and feel the majestic part in our own body and form: the torso:

The poem below, which was written by an unknown poet about Apollo’s torso, revels in words and feeling our emotion and attraction with your painting which adorns our home.

We cannot know his legendary head
with eyes like ripening fruit. And yet his torso
is still suffused with brilliance from inside,
like a lamp, in which his gaze, now turned to fire

gleams in all its power. Otherwise
the curved breast could not dazzle you so, nor could
a smile run through the placid hips and thighs
to that dark center where procreation flared.

Otherwise this painting would seem defaced
beneath the translucent cascade of the shoulders
and would not glisten like a wild beast’s fur:

would not, from all the borders of itself,
burst like a star: for here there is no place
that does not see you in all your might and shine so brightly.

Yet with a subtle grace that emanates from the soul that is embedded in the torso.

Keep up your work of art, a divine gift from the creator!!

With best regards,

Maarten and Seema van der Sande
